EXAIR Super Air Knife
| 20 August, 2024EXAIR Super Air Knife
The EXAIR Super Air Knife is the best solution for compressed air blowoff operations that require a wide sheet of air. We’ve been manufacturing air knife for industrial applications for over 40 years, and the Super Air Knife made its debut in 1997. Since then, the Super Air Knife has undergone several improvements, as we continuously strive not only to introduce new products but also to enhance the ones we already have. We’ve added new materials, longer one-piece Super Air Knives, and additional accessories. But for the most part, the core design has remained the same. As the saying goes: “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
The EXAIR Super Air Knife generates a high-speed sheet of air
The Super Air Knife uses a compressed air source to create a high-velocity laminar sheet of air. This supplied compressed air mixes with surrounding ambient air, which is drawn into the primary airflow. The compressed air knife for cooling and cleaning entrains ambient air at a 40:1 ratio, making it EXTREMELY effective for a wide range of drying, cleaning, and cooling applications. It’s a truly energy-efficient air knife EXAIR users rely on, especially in demanding EXAIR air knife drying system setups.

EXAIR SUPER AIR KNIFE LENGTHS
Available in lengths ranging from 3″ to 108″ and in a variety of construction materials, there’s a EXAIR Super Air Knife for nearly any application. Anytime you have products moving along a conveyor that need to be cleaned, dried, or cooled, an air knife for industrial applications is the ideal choice.
Not all applications involve direct blowoff on a product. In some cases, we use our Super Air Knives for what we often call air separation. In an air separation application, we’re using a high-speed airflow to keep two areas isolated from one another. That is, using the compressed air knife for cooling and cleaning to maintain a protective barrier to prevent gases, vapors, or harmful fumes from reaching an operator. Or, it can be used in cases where we want to stop hot air from escaping (like in a large oven) or, conversely, to prevent cold air (from a refrigerator or freezer) from leaking out.

FOOD INDUSTRY
In many food processing plants, there are areas where products travel along conveyors that enter/exit environmentally controlled spaces. In a recent application, I helped a customer who needed a solution to keep the cold air contained within a freezer space. Inside the freezer, the temperature was -4°F. After the product has been baked, it moves along a series of conveyors at ambient temperature to cool down. The product is then flash-frozen before final packaging.

At the entrance to the freezer, there was a conveyor with an 18″ wide opening. To prevent cold air from escaping, a Model 110018SS Super Air Knife was installed along the top of the opening. The high-speed laminar airflow keeps the cold air inside the freezer while preventing the warmer ambient air from passing through the air stream. This setup is a great example of an EXAIR air knife drying system applied to temperature control.
While most applications involve blowoff, drying, cooling, or cleaning, energy-efficient air knife EXAIR systems offer a wide range of other potential uses.
